Interested in taking up Budo Taijutsu? We get lots of inquiries from people who are interested in Japanese martial arts, so approximately twice a year, we run dedicated eight-week introductory courses at the Rathgar Dojo.
Here are the details of the course due to start on September 20th:
* The next eight week course enrolling: Monday, September 20th, 2010
* Beginners’ classes are held: Monday evenings from 6.30pm to 7.30pm
* Location: 67 Garville Lane, Rathgar, Dublin 6
* Cost of the course: Eighty euro, payable in advance the first evening of the course.
* Class duration: 1 hour per lesson
The courses are designed to give people a basic introduction to how things are done in the Bujinkan Dojo and to prepare new students to take part in the other classes run at the Rathgar dojo. So what can you expect to happen during the classes if you join up? Each one hour class usually includes instruction in:
Course contents
Stretching and aspects of budō culture
Ukemi (rolling and falling skills)
Kamae (postures)
Taijutsu kihon waza (basic unarmed techniques)
Introduction to the use of the sanshaku bo (3ft wooden staff)
Training is open to all suitable candidates over the age of 16 and men and women are equally welcome.

Once you’ve done this, you should read through the ‘About’ and ‘FAQ’ section of this website to make sure you’ve a good idea of what the course entails and what this martial art is all about. It’s also a good idea to make an arrangement to drop down to the dojo to watch a class.
We like everyone interested in training to watch at least one class before starting with us. This gives us an opportunity to answer any questions you have and make sure that your training goals will be met with us. To do this, call or text in advance to 087 2365309 to make sure training is on and to let us know your coming. (Important - observing class is by appointment only)
